Visual & Media ArtsThe faculty of Visual and Media Arts currently offer A-levels in Art, Film Studies and Photography, and BTEC Level 3 courses in Art and Design (equivalent to three A-levels) and Creative Media Production (equivalent to two A-levels).
All of these courses will develop your practical and critical skills and enhance your visual literacy and creativity. We have extremely modern facilities to support the excellent teaching provided by our teams. If you study with us, you will have access to a darkroom, a kiln, a broadcast studio, a risograph printer and other specialist print-making facilities to enrich your learning experience. Come and take a look, and you will be stunned at the quality of work on offer. You will work in both traditional and computer-aided media (with access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software), and you will learn about the power of visual thinking. You will be expertly supported by our specialist technicians, who are all practitioners in their own right: some of our teaching staff are practising artists with recent exhibitions in London galleries, who are able to bring their unique experiences and insights to our Post 16 students. If you want to go on to art school (about 20-30 Tallis students do so each year), we provide expert advice through our Arts Colleges Co-ordinator. We will support you to produce the strongest portfolio you possibly can and take you through each step of the applications process with unparalleled knowledge and experience. Recent Tallis students have gone on to study Fine Art, Illustration, Broadcast Media, Photography, Art History, Architecture and more. Learning opportunities are not just confined to the classroom. All our courses offer students valuable learning experiences, conference visits, and trips to various museums and galleries, as well as the opportunity to get involved with a multitude of performances, exhibitions, showcases and other events. We have a strong online presence and students’ work is regularly exhibited in school. We have also developed close connections over many years to the most reputable galleries, museums and arts colleges in London and beyond, and our teachers offer advice and support to colleagues across the country. The school has a significant reputation for the quality of its visual arts and media education, and these subjects are at the heart of the school’s mission to provide an education to understand the world so that it can be changed for the better. Take a look at our dedicated website for more information about studying the visual and media arts at Thomas Tallis. Visit the faculty website for even more information about each of our Post 16 courses.
