UNIVERSITY OUTREACH, EVENTS AND OPEN DAYS

On this page you can find out about upcoming opportunities to visit or engage with UK universities. These will include taster sessions to get a sense of what university study is like, and opportunities to visit a university campus.

In many cases, signing up for an event or programme can help with your UCAS applications!

The Lectures London website is a great resource, that helps you find free to attend lectures from leading universities and institutions around London.

Explore it today and find some events to attend over the summer: these will be great for your personal statement and any interviews you have to attend!
June 2022

It is the last chance for students to apply for two UCL summer activities.

​Applications are still open for UCL Informed Futures and Envision@UCL for a short time.

Students in Year 12 can also apply for a law scholarship offered by CMS.

UCL has launched a new Future Learn course focused on supporting young people to engage with STEM subjects in an inclusive way.

Imperial College London is working with Code Untapped, a Black-led organisation that works to improve Black inclusivity and help students from a BAME background to collaborate and learn new skills to help them prepare for a career in Tech.

They have recently announced the first part of a £10Million commitment to to scholarships and studentships for Black and underrepresented students over the next five years.

50 scholarships will be available over the next 5 years that cover all courses at Undergraudate, Masters and PhD level, along with a wealth of other support and guidance that Imperial are providing to Black students as part of their campaign.

The University of Kent have some upcoming events that will be useful for Year 12 and 13 students.

There are two free webinars coming up that are free for students to attend, they can register using the links below if interested.

Wednesday 22nd June: A free webinar on Everything you need to know about Student Finance: Aimed at both Year 12 and Year 13 students and covers the three main finance questions students ask when considering higher education: how much does it cost, how do I pay for it and how do I manage my money? Register here

Thursday 30th June: A free webinar on Everything you need to know about Clearing: Aimed at Year 13 students to cover options for applying to universities between July and October. We will discuss UCAS Extra, confirmation of results and how to research university courses and institutions over the Clearing period. Register here

Saturday 25th June: An Open Day at the Medway campus

Saturday 2nd July: An Open Day at the Canterbury campus.
Students are welcome to attend to have a look around the campus and accommodation, speak to current students and academics from their subject areas and find out about the support available to our students. Bookings can be made by clicking this link.

The University of Southampton’s Ignite Your Journey Programme is now open for applications, for students in the first year of their A Level or equivalent studies who are planning to apply to university for 2023 entry.

Ignite your Journey is designed to help participants build skills and knowledge around university level study and aid their transition to higher education (HE). Students will take part in a series of activities and access a number of resources to support their university application and to develop their preparedness for HE.

In order to be eligible for Ignite your Journey, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
 
  • In receipt of a 16-19 bursary or similar grant OR received Free School Meals during at any point during their secondary school studies
  • Been in local authority care or looked after for three months or more OR are estranged from their family
  • Are a Young Carer
  • Current home post code shows that they live in an area with low levels of progression to Higher Education. (Postcodes within the lowest 2 POLAR4 quintiles)
  • Current home post code shows that they live in area that falls within the lowest 20 per cent of the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). (Postcodes in the lowest IMD quintile).
 
Those who complete the programme in full will be eligible to receive:
 
  • Additional admissions consideration when they apply to Southampton
  • A £1000 scholarship in their first year of study
  • Support to apply to Ignite your Success, an Alumni funded programme that supports undergraduates with a blend of financial, career, academic and other opportunities.

Applications will close on 13th July 2022​. ​

The University of Reading has a series of taster sessions and open days coming up in June and July, both virtual and in-person.

Royal Holloway University of London is holding its Summer Open Day on 18 June.

The events run between 9am and 5pm, and guests are welcome to stay for just a morning or afternoon, or for the entire day.
