Physical Education

BTEC Sport provides a practical, real-world approach to learning alongside the necessary theoretical background, giving students the applied knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment or further study. At Tallis we offer the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport, worth the equivalent of one A-level.

For the duration of the Extended Certificate you will study 4 units, 2 of which are assessed using external examinations.  The remaining 2 units are internally assessed through the submission of coursework which can take a variety of formats such as written work, video footage and powerpoint presentations.

The course requires you to work independently and with others. The units you will study contain a variety of theoretical and practical elements and include Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-Being, Professional Development in the Sports Industry, and Practical Sports Performance.

BTEC Sport is very successful at Tallis. Past students have gone on to pursue careers in areas such as sports coaching, physiotherapy, sports therapy, teaching, leisure and event management, and personal training. Tallis students have also recently gone on to university to read Sports Science degrees at, for example, Exeter and Birmingham universities.
