Applying to Thomas Tallis 16+ for 2023-2024

We are now full for September 2022.

Application to Thomas Tallis Post-16 Centre for 2023-2024 are now open, and can be made via this online application form. Internal applicants should sign-in using the log-in details provided by email. If you are an internal applicant you do not need to create a new account. External applicants should click the link to create a new application.

We do not usually interview applicants: we use, instead, a detailed school reference. Once you've applied, we'll ask your school for this.

Questions about this can be sent to post16admissions@thomastallis.org.uk

The key dates for 2023-2024 applicants are:

Applications: Our online application portal opens on our Open Evening, Wednesday 19 October 2022. For external applicants, it will remain open until 12 noon on Friday 16 December 2022.  (We set an earlier application deadline for our internal applicants.)  Applications made after this point are considered to be late applications and won't receive equal consideration.
References sought: We can only reply to external applicants once we have had a reference from your school, and our deadline for references to be sent from schools is 12 noon on Friday 24 February.  We allow two months or so for schools to respond.
Offers made: We will offer to successful internal applicants from the end of February 2023.  We will offer to successful external applicants from the end of March 2023. We have many applicants every year, and it takes time to work through them carefully.  Please be patient.
Taster Days for successful applicants: during the week commencing June 26 2023, provisionally.
Enrolment: Please note: to formally enrol and convert a provisional offer into firm place, students must enrol in person on GCSE Results day in August 2023.  We are generally full for most subjects by the end of our first day of enrolment.

If we are oversubscribed - we were in 2021-2022 and in 2022-2023, and we expect to be in 2023-2024 - we use the Royal Borough of Greenwich's school oversubscription criteria to decide the applicants we can make provisional offers to.  All offers depend on students meeting our academic entry criteria, which are outlined in our 'Entry Requirements' document below.

Please note: we give first-time external applicants (i.e. those in Year 11) priority over applicants already in Year 12.  Given that we are oversubscribed at present, it is not likely that we will be able to offer places for 2023-2024 to applicants already in Year 12.

In brief, we make offers to Year 11 children who look set to meet our academic entry requirements in the following order: children with an EHCP nominating Tallis, looked-after children, adopted children, those in Year 11 at Tallis, those in Year 11 at Greenwich schools, then on the basis of distance to Tallis from home address until we have reached our maximum offer number.
We review our timetable, our course pathways, and our entry requirements for individual subjects from year to year.  For a good idea of how we work and what we expect, see below for our present plan for the details of our 2022-2023 offer.  We don't anticipate the 'small print' will change very much, although we do revise our curriculum plan during each academic year.
Level 3 courses are a significant step up from those completed at Key Stage 4. You must choose your subjects carefully. Try to choose subjects that you are good at: this is why we recommend at least a 6 at GCSE in any A-level subject desired at Key Stage 5.  It can be hard to stay motivated if you are struggling with a subject. Look carefully at the subject syllabus and how it is assessed. Consider which subjects ‘fit together’ and compliment each other. Finally, make sure your subject combination prepares you for your future goal, be it the world of work or higher education.  If you're unsure, ask us about this!

For entry we generally require all students to have a minimum of five 4-9 qualifications at GCSE including Maths and English at 5, but provide the option for students to retake an English or Maths GCSE if necessary. It is a general recommendation that students need a 6 in the GCSE subject they intend to continue to A-level, (see the latest information, below). Students with a majority of 4 grades will take BTEC courses; only if GCSE grades are rather stronger than this will A-levels be possible. It is also worth noting that students need to achieve a D grade / Merit or above in Year 12 if we are to recommend progression in that course to Year 13.
The following table outlines our pathways for sixth form study and gives a general sense of the entry qualifications required for each.  Please note: we also set specific entry requirements for particular A-level and BTEC courses, and these are also outlined below.  Art, Photography, Media require the submission of a portfolio of work, for instance.
The table below shows our anticipated timetable blocking for 2022-2023.  We reserve the right to change it as we need, although it is a good indication of our likely blocking for 2023-2024. Only one subject can be studied in each column or block.

Please see our Entry Requirements document below for more precise details of the entry requirements we set for each course that we offer.  We reserve the right to change these from time to time. Please also see our timetable blocking: students can pick at most one course in each column.  Finally, please also remember that our timetable may change from year to year.
