Applying to Thomas Tallis 16+ for 2024-2025
Key admissions and enrolment dates for 2024-2025 applicants:
Offers made:
We are currently processing applications received before our final deadline of 3 March, and beginning to send out offers through Applicaa. We can only reply to external applicants once we have had a reference from your school.
In most cases we make successful applicants a Conditional Offer. Holding a Conditional Offer means that you will be invited to enrol in person after you receive your GCSE results on Thursday 22nd August. We do not guarantee offer-holders a curriculum in advance, and may only enrol applicants onto courses which have space and which they meet the minimum entry requirements for. Our entry requirements are listed below. Please therefore be aware that your place at Thomas Tallis Sixth Form may only be confirmed after you receive your GCSE results and during our in-person enrolment process.
Taster Days for successful applicants: during the week commencing June 24 2024, provisionally. Details will be sent to offer-holders in due course.
Enrolment:
To formally enrol and convert a Conditional Offer into firm place, students must enrol in person during our Enrolment Days in August 2024.
We will invite all internal offer holders (those who are not currently students at Tallis) to enrol from 09.30am on GCSE results day (Thursday 22 August 2024).
We will invite all external offer holders (those who are not currently students at Tallis) to enrol from 11am on GCSE results day (Thursday 22 August 2024).
Please note: we give first-time external applicants (i.e. those in Year 11) priority over applicants already in Year 12.

We review our timetable, our course pathways, and our entry requirements for individual subjects from year to year. For a good idea of how we work and what we expect, see below for our present plan for the details of our 2023-2024 offer. We don't anticipate the 'small print' will change very much, although we do revise our curriculum plan during each academic year.
Level 3 courses are a significant step up from those completed at Key Stage 4. You must choose your subjects carefully. Try to choose subjects that you are good at: this is why we recommend at least a 6 at GCSE in any A-level subject desired at Key Stage 5. It can be hard to stay motivated if you are struggling with a subject. Look carefully at the subject syllabus and how it is assessed. Consider which subjects ‘fit together’ and compliment each other. Finally, make sure your subject combination prepares you for your future goal, be it the world of work or higher education. If you're unsure, ask us about this!
For entry we generally require all students to have a minimum of five 4-9 qualifications at GCSE including Maths and English at 5, but provide the option for students to retake an English or Maths GCSE if necessary. It is a general recommendation that students need a 6 in the GCSE subject they intend to continue to A-level, (see the latest information, below). Students with a majority of 4 grades will take BTEC courses; only if GCSE grades are rather stronger than this will A-levels be possible. It is also worth noting that students need to achieve a D grade / Merit or above in Year 12 if we are to recommend progression in that course to Year 13.

The following table outlines our pathways for sixth form study and gives a general sense of the entry qualifications required for each. Please note: we also set specific entry requirements for particular A-level and BTEC courses, and these are also outlined below. Art, Photography, Media require the submission of a portfolio of work, for instance.
The table below shows our anticipated timetable blocking. We reserve the right to change it as we need, although it is a good indication of our likely blocking for the upcoming year. Only one subject can be studied in each column or block.
Recommended pathways
Please see our Entry Requirements document below for more precise details of the entry requirements we set for each course that we offer. We reserve the right to change these from time to time. Please also see our timetable blocking: students can pick at most one course in each column. Finally, please also remember that our timetable may change from year to year.
