Tallis: 'Steady as she goes!'
After another turbulent year, Tallis remains in the top 10% of all Sixth Forms in Britain for the value we add to our student body’s academic achievement.
Almost three hundred and twenty students were awarded A-level or BTEC grades at Thomas Tallis in 2021. 35% of A-level entries obtained A*/A grades, and 68% achieved A*-B grades. At A-level 83 students gained the equivalent of ABB or better, up on last year. The pass rate in all our A-level subjects was 99.8%. These 2021 results reflect the consistent excellence of our outstanding post-16 provision at Tallis, year after year.
BTEC students also performed brilliantly. 72% of our BTEC grades were Distinction or D*, and 28% were D* grades. 46 BTEC students achieved at least one D* grade; 39 obtained DDD or better (equivalent to AAA at A-level); 8 achieved D*D*D* grades (equivalent to A*A*A* at A-level). There was a 100% pass rate.
240 students from Thomas Tallis are taking up university places, with over 85 of our applicants going on to Russell Group universities. Over 175 or more than 80% of our students are going on to the ‘Russell Group Plus’ – that is, top-10-for-subject, highly specialist single-faculty institutions such as SOAS, and the Russell Group institutions themselves.
As always, our most focused students achieved remarkable outcomes and many have taken up Russell Group places: Jenny D (A*A*A*A*) is to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge; Vera U (D*D*D*) and Sahara S (DDM) are taking up Nursing places at KCL; Oluwaseyifunmi O (D*D*D*) is to read Midwifery there too, and is joined by Rhianne B (ABB) who is to read Medicine - alongside another six Tallis students; Louis T (A*A*A*) is to read Medicine at Newcastle, where he is joined by Finley C (BBB), who is reading Biology; William H (A*A*A*) is to read Engineering at Imperial and Rosie D (A*A*A*A*) the same at Cambridge; Tia E (A*A*A*) and Ferdinand J (AAA) are heading to Warwick, one to read Economics and the other Philosophy and Psychology, and are being kept company by four other Tallis students; Morgan M (A*A*A*) and Finley M (A*A*A*a*) are both reading History, but one at Oxford and the other at Cambridge; Harry S (A*A*A*) and Ellie M (A*A*A) both have won places at Bristol, one to read Maths and the other to read Music, along with nine other Tallis students; Emmeline M (AAAa) is to read English and Miguel V (A*AB) is to read Film, Photography and Media, both at Leeds, alongside four others from Tallis; Jack B (D*D*D), Hakim D (D*D*D) and Neilas B (D*D*D) are all going to QMUL to read Business or Marketing.
Other exceptional students are taking up ‘RG+’ places. Stefan S (A*AA) is to read Physics at Bath, joined by Richard K (A*AA), reading Computer Systems Engineering, and Lydia S (D*D*D*, Sports Management); three are to Lancaster - Poppy M (A*A*A), reading Biology, Perline W (A*AA), reading Human Geography, and Sasha P (AABa), reading Economics – and, as always, a number of students are heading to SOAS, including Yasmine M (ABB), who is to read Law, and two others. Arnold S (AAB), of course, is to read Veterinary Medicine at Surrey, joined by seven other Tallis students there, including Anwar E (DMM, Sport and Exercise Science), Maryam K (ABC, Criminology) and Toneta M (D*D*D*, Business Management); Lauren S (D*D*D*) is to read Sports Management at UEA and will be joined there by four other Tallis students.
Our students have also had great success with apprenticeship applications, most notably Hayley H (A*AA) who is taking up a degree level apprenticeship in Engineering with Arup, one of the world’s leading design and engineering consultancies.
Besides this, thirty-five or so Tallis students are taking up places at Art and Performing Art colleges all over Britain, including (as always) most of the constituent colleges of the University of the Arts, London. Marton S (AAA), Cole P (A*D*D*) and Tia S (A*A*A*) received offers from every art college they applied to, such was the quality of their work. Aisha D (D*DD) and Poppy P (BBC) are heading to Camberwell College of Art, along with another four of our students who have won places at the Camberwell/Chelsea/Wimbledon consortium.
Another fifteen or so performers have auditioned successfully: Leoni T (AAA) progresses to the Song Writing course at ICMP; Louis C (A*CC) is to read Audio and Music Technology at Bristol UWE; Gabriel R (ACC) is to study Music and Sound Production at BIMM; Molly W (A*AA) is to pursue Dance at Chichester and Florence N (A*AB) has won a bursary to Roehampton to study Dance; Arthur W (D*CC) has won a place on the Production Arts course at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In sum, London, the Midlands, and all points North are again represented and this year as in every year for the last decade and more we have placed students at almost the entire alphabet and set of initialisms of excellent places for further study – our students are heading to Anglia Ruskin, Bath, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, City, Durham, Edinburgh, Essex, Exeter, Edinburgh, Goldsmith’s, Imperial, KCL, Kent, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, QMUL, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, Surrey, SOAS, Sussex, UCL, UEA and Warwick, amongst others.
