ABOUT US
A warm welcome to Thomas Tallis 16+ Centre!
The learning facilities in our modern building are outstanding with specialised social and academic areas for our 16+ students. Take some snaps in the photography studio, experiment in the state-of-the-art labs, watch a film in our big screen theatre, record your band in the professional music studio or create your own TV programme in the broadcast studio. The possibilities and experiences in this beautiful building are endless! We are very proud of our large, diverse and successful centre which is constantly evolving. Each year over 90% of our most able Year 11 students choose to remain with us. The success and unique atmosphere of our centre also attracts a lot of other students from neighbouring schools, both private and state, both out of borough and within Greenwich. We strive to achieve high standards through creative approaches to learning and teaching which will enable our students to thrive in the 21st century. We value the individual and have a track record for developing students into well rounded, confident, articulate young people who go onto lead interesting, creative and valued lives. Check out the alumni page for regularly updated articles about past students! Our curriculum offer is broad and has developed in response to student demand and the needs of the different progression pathways. There is a good mixture of academic, creative and vocational courses, all of which are successful because they are taught imaginatively using modern technologies and sound pedagogy. We are proud to challenge and stimulate students into becoming inquisitive, independent learners. Our teaching staff, our most precious and valued resource, are highly qualified, with advanced skilled teachers contributing to our learning programme. Many of our A level teachers hold masters degrees, and there are a number with doctoral qualifications also. |
We provide an enrichment programme including 'Thinking Aloud' sessions for Oxbridge and medical school applicants, access to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on every subject under the sun, '48 things to do before you leave Tallis' and an annual Question Time that draws national figures to the school. Our debating team has reached national finals, and we usually win the London Schools Cup for football. Our reading scheme involves our students in supporting primary school and year 7 students with their reading, and there are other mentoring roles available for sixth formers too.
This year every single one of our students who applied to university or Art College were placed. This is not only down to rigorous study and brain-power but also to the bespoke advice and guidance given by the Progression Team as they burn the midnight oil fitting the person to the right course. Many of our students go to world class Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. As we are a specialist Arts College and one of the original national Schools of Creativity, we also send a lot of our students to some of the most esteemed institutions that specialise in the visual and performing arts. In a recent survey we asked the incoming Year 12 students why they chose ThomasTallis 16+ Centre. They said the quality of the teaching, the friendly and creative atmosphere, the tradition of academic success, the sense of a caring community and the opportunity to mix with like-minded people. We aim for our students to do more than survive. We enable them to thrive and whatever they go on to do, we ensure that they are able to do it with passion, dignity and style! Come and join us ! |
