Gus Baker "skills & relationships"
The best thing Tallis gave me was an ability to talk to and understand people from all backgrounds.
I work for a Trade Union, which is an organisation that helps represent people at work and make sure that their employers are giving them a fair deal. I also work for a campaigns charity which tries to make sure that people working as interns are paid a fair wage and treated with respect. In a typical week at work I might need to work with security guards, MPs, journalists, porters, TV producers and lawyers and so it’s vital that I can relate to everyone I meet. Tallis gave me that skill and it is absolutely priceless. |
Students at Tallis should aim high. If you want to go to university, pick your A-levels carefully and think about what you’d like to study. It’s worth taking into account how much it will cost, but you’re likely to get a much more interesting and better paid job if you can go. Whatever you choose to do, make it something that you’ll enjoy. There’s nothing worse than being stuck doing 40 hour ling weeks, at University or in the workplace, doing something that you find boring.
Our school is much more than a building, old or new. It’s the incredible teachers and brilliant students who make Tallis what it is. Grades are important, but it’s the skills and relationships you build while you’re at school that will matter most during the rest of your life. Make the most of the chance while you can! |
