Specialist Status

Thomas Tallis School has been designated a specialist arts college (1998), a leading edge school (2005) and one of the original national schools of creativity (2008). This means that we receive additional funding from the government to innovate, maintain very high standards and share best practice with other schools.

The future status of specialist schools is unclear. However, we are very proud of our specialisms and we are committed to maintaining and developing our expertise in the following areas:
  • arts education
  • cultural entitlement
  • learning beyond the classroom
  • the imaginative use of ICT
  • creative learning across the curriculum
We were designated an Arts Mark Gold school in 2012.

We have developed some very significant partnerships with other learning providers both within and beyond the UK. We are recipients of an International Schools Award and we have a growing family of collaborators across the world with whom we share a passion for creativity and the imperative of helping young people develop the necessary skills for life in the 21st century.
We take our responsibilities as a specialist school very seriously. We work closely with our partners in the local community to support the development of talents and skills. We actively support community organisations and collaborate with many partners in the public and private sectors. Our partnerships with arts organisations, from huge national institutions to small local companies, enriches the curriculum and ensures that we remain active in the cultural landscape.
