Collect a range of promotional material for one of this summer's blockbuster movies and conduct some research into the production, distribution and exhibition of this movie, storing these materials somewhere safe in readiness for Section A classwork in the autumn term.

  2. Watch as many 'Eyes on the Prize' episodes as you can. Episodes 1-12 are all relevant to the Civil Rights Unit and available on Youtube.
  3. Complete any specific tasks set by your teacher

Photography:

  1. Create a Flickr account and follow Tallis Photography
  2. Create a Tumblr blog and follow Tallis Photo
  3. Create a Pinterest account and follow Tallis Arts. Begin to pin appropriate images to a new board entitled 'Contrasts'
  4. Buy a book (A4 or A3 black, hard bound, landscape or portrait, at least 50 good quality pages). 
  5. Begin taking photos on the theme of Contrasts. Upload ALL images to Flickr and the best to your blog. 
  6. Make sure you explain why the images you have chosen for your blog are the best. 
  7. Visit as many exhibitions (not just photography) as you can.
  8. Take a good look at the various department websites and blogs, especially tallisphotography.weebly.com, tallisalevelphoto.weebly.com
  9. Think about art. Read a good book.

Keep a summer news log in hard copy form or digital summarising each article and developing a related debate question. Contain a minimum of six key stories, to convey the political landscape over the last six months, including over the summer.

Focus on:
  • Social, Historical, Political background
  • Main Theories and practices
  • Style of work
  • Affect on actor and audience
Create a detailed handout on each practitioner ready to be shared with your class in the first lesson in Sept

Dance:

Task 1 (theory):
A) Research the following choreographers and their dance works:
  • William Forcythe "Solo"
  • Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker "Fase"
  • Bob Fosse "Sweet Charity"
B) Watch a 5 minute clip of each work and bullet point or mindmap descriptive words for the movement (ASDR)

Task 2 (performance):
  • Aim to improve your technical skills by doing the following exercises weekly:
  • Posture: sit with your back against the wall for 1 minute
  • Alignment: check your arms are in line with your shoulders by checking in a mirror (or photograph) and hold this for 2 minutes
  • Strength: hold a plank for 1 minute (3 reps) and a V-sit for 1 min (3 reps); you could also look up pilates exercises on youtube
  • Stamina: run, cycle or swim for 10-30 mins
  • Flexibility: hold a box stretch for 1 minute (3 reps - each should aim to be deeper than the last) - aim to get your feet pointed off the floor!

English

As part of the course this year you are going to be asked to keep a scrapbook of interesting uses of Language.

Think about how many texts you are exposed to in your daily life. Collect between 6 and 10 interesting texts over the summer. Present them in a scrapbook. Annotate each text according to the language levels.

Extended Project:

Extended Project: To write, mind map....in a form of your choosing a set of ideas for a project.

Take notes on any relevant sources looked at. This could take the form of a gallery visit, an interview, books read...etc.

Geography:

Over the induction period you have investigated and explained causes, effects and solutions to a geographic issue. To push this further you should try to take the same approach to investigating another issue from your Geography specification.

This should be written up as an essay but if you want to be a little more creative feel free to surprise us.

Music BTEC

  1. You should choose a piece or a selection of pieces to work on for the summer.
  2. Create a practice diary charting your development of a solo piece for performance/recording in September.
  3. You should create either audio/visual or written diaries. The diaries must demonstrate SMART targets (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable, Time-bound).  This means that you will set targets  (mainly short-term ones) and be able to reflect on them in your diaries once you have passed your target date.
  4. You will give a performance of all or part of the piece you have chosen to work on for the summer, in the first lesson(s) back in September.
  5. Create your own Tumblr blog to start gathering video evidence in support of your practice/rehearsal diary.

  • Create a musical timeline stretching from the first set work to the final. Plot these set works on your timeline (with the year that they were composed), highlighting what period of musical history they were from and what nationality the composer was.

Sport BTEC:

Unit 18 - Sports Injuries
Investigate and prepare a presentation that includes:

1.  A List and explanation of as many intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors in relation to sports injuries.
2.  A list of some preventative measures and tasks that can be taken in order to help reduce the risk of injuries in Sport.
3.  An explanation of how the preventative measures will help reduce the risk of injury.

Research the following:
  • Sports Development Continuum, giving example from three different sports and each level
  • Barriers to participation for individuals from three different target groups at different levels of the sports-development continuum.

Spanish:

Please watch a Spanish speaking movie and write a summary of it in Spanish.
