Business & IT

The Business and IT curriculum area offers a wide range of BTEC and A-level subjects at Post 16 to engage and enthuse students.

Our A-level in Business contains modules about marketing, managing people and finance, understanding business activities and developing business strategies, and globalisation and the structure of global business. It is assessed through challenging written examinations.

Our Information Technology AAQ is equivalent to one A-level and focuses on the IT systems in use in modern society that manage and share information. Students also study cyber security and incident management and how websites are developed and for what purposes. This qualification contains some coursework, and there is also an external examination paper every year.

Our BTEC National Diploma in Business (8 units of study, equivalent to two A-levels) and Extended Diploma (13 units, equivalent to three A-levels) is also mostly assessed through coursework set to tight deadlines, with fewer written exam papers than for A-level. These courses aim to give students a broad understanding of the modern business environment and units focus on a wide range of topics: marketing, recruitment and selection, principles of management, event management, market research and so on.

The new building allows us to have state-of-the-art facilities to enrich the classroom teaching and learning which takes place in these subjects. We also run programmes for learning outside the classroom drawing on our contacts in the City and elsewhere, and every year a range of guest speakers come in to talk.
